2026 projects - second third update

It's the end of August and time for my second update of the year.  The gaming update for May to August is here.  

At the start of the year this is what the projects board looked like (detail here):

The updated list at the end of April looked like this (detail here):

And here we are at the end of August:

The ticks show how many months I've worked on something for that project.  There's been no new projects added since the April update. 

At the end of April the balance was:
  • 28mm - 17 figures (5 Verrotwood, 12 Celtos)
  • 20mm - 14 figures (4 French Indo-China War, 10 WW2); 1 gun, 1 aircraft (all French Indo-China War)
  • 15mm - 92 figures (76 late 15th Century, 16 late 16th Century); 1 WW2 afv 
  • 6mm - 362 figures (134 1980's Iran-Iraq/Soviet-Afghanistan Wars, 192 Seven Years War, 36 19th C Colonial); 22 afvs/aircraft (all Iran-Iraq/Soviet-Afghanistan Wars)
The current balance is:
  • 28mm - 52 figures (4 Verrotwood, 9 Celtos, 39 WW2)
  • 20mm - 14 figures (4 French Indo-China War, 10 WW2); 1 gun, 1 aircraft (all French Indo-China War)
  • 15mm - 32 figures (16 late 15th Century, 16 late 16th Century); 1 WW2 afv 
  • 6mm - 285 figures (57 1980's Iran-Iraq/Soviet-Afghanistan Wars, 192 Seven Years War, 36 19th C Colonial); 22 afvs/aircraft (all Iran-Iraq/Soviet-Afghanistan Wars)
In this period I've completed:
  • 28mm - 7 figures (1 Verrotwood, 3 WW2, 3 Celtos)
  • 20mm - 0 figures
  • 15mm - 60 figures (all late 15th Century)
  • 6mm - 77 figures (all Soviet-Afghanistan Wars)  
And added:
  • 28mm - 42 figures (All WW2)
  • 20mm - 0 figures
  • 15mm - 0 figures
  • 6mm - 0 figures

My main focus during this period has been on the late 15th Century Fall of Granada project.  This had been on the list for years and after finally committing to buying the figures, I've really got on with it to the point that the initial forces are nearly all done.

Apart from June, which was a crappy month all round, I've kept to the plan of doing at least one terrain "thing” a month, completing two buildings and tarting up some terrain boards. 

I’ve still got the two unoccupied squares left and a few ideas for what may fill them.  Whether they’ll be started this year or not is another matter, but I’m in the research and feasibility stage for a couple of projects.

Salute 53 - my two penneth

It's now almost a fortnight since Salute 53, Europe's largest one day wargames show.  It's taken me a little while to unravel my thoughts.  This post isn't a review of Salute (see Storm of Steel and Big Lee's Miniature Adventures YouTube channels for two excellent reviews), it's my personal take. The Shootout at El Ande County - A What a Cowboy AAR

In El Ande county The Watchmen* and the Chartwell Boys* have always been rivals.  However, since DM Faultt of the 'Boys took a shine to Carl Walker's girl Kimmie at The Corkin Cheese saloon, things have taken a turn for the worse.  At the abandoned homestead of the Hodges family, the two rival gangs decide to shoot it out. Turn One Starting positions Tony LeGrand (Shootist) is first to activate and his Action Dice are 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5.  The 1 allows him to moves which he does five inches .  At the moment though he can't utilise his other dice so his activation ends. DM Faultt the Gunslinger leader of the Chartwell Boys, is next rolling Action Dice of 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4.  He uses a 1 dice to move 4 inches and the other 1 dice to move a further two inches. This takes him into a good position hunkered down behind a wagon.  At this early stage his other dice can't be used. April 2026 hobby update

Well darn it, we're a third of the way through 2026 already.  April has been a bit less stressful month than March real world wise, just steadily working through my stuff. April always means Salute for me and you can read my thoughts on the show here .  The end of April is also where I take stock of my progress in the year to date.  You can see how I've been doing with my projects here and with gaming here . Completed Here's what I completed during the month: 20mm Platoon 20 French Indo-China War Vietnamese.  I completed four pairs of porters, a mule team and the artillery crew this month.  Porters and mules were a vital part of the Vietnamese war effort.  They add something a little different to the table and they've come out rather well.  I based the recoilless rifle and all the crew on small magnetised bases then made a base out of magnetic receptive sheet as I'd done for my Ancient Germans and Imperial Romans.  This gives me the flexibility of...
