The hobby week - 19 November to 25 November

I've had a decent week hobby wise. I've made steady progress with a regiment of 10mm Chaos Dwarf Blunderbusses for Warmaster Revolution.  Learning from my first batch of Chaos Dwarfs I split a lot of the strips as I find them easier to paint this way.  They're quirky, characterful little models which is why I chose to collect this army.  I've done more of the Stug IIIG that's been sitting on the table for ages.  Just details and weathering to do now. Dwarfs and a Stug in progress I've finished adding the magnets to my Warmachine and Hordes figures.  I like mixing this sort of practical, straightforward job with painting.  Handling the figures gives me a real appreciation of what lovely sculpts most of them are.  If I say so myself there's some decent paint jobs as well. Warmachine   Hordes I got the time to take some photos and write a post about the 10mm Ogres that I finished last week.  You can see the ugly, fat blighters  here .   Research & Reading

Ogre Bulls

Finally here's the first two units for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army.  These are two units of Ogre Bulls, the mainstay of any Ogre force.   I thought these would be simple to do but what with Covid and brittle resin they seemed to be thwarting me.  I got there in the end and I'm pleased with how they've come out.  They're incredibly detailed little models, something that could probably only be achieved with 3D design and printing.   They were printed three to a base and the original plan was to leave them on the bases.  However, the base was only 1mm deep so it would have been difficult to move them without touching the models when playing.  Having now gained an appreciation for how brittle tiny bits of resin are I didn't want to  be continually repairing my lovingly painted models.  I'd also already broken two of the bases which made up my mind for me.  I cut/broke some of the models off to leave a mixture of pairs and individual Ogres.  Using

I've had a busy week work wise so haven't got too much done. The majority of the hobby time I've had has been spent finishing the two 10mm Ogre Bull regiments for Warmaster Revolution.  I'm really pleased with them and when time permits I'll take some photos and do a post on them.   The only other thing I've done was to add magnets to the bases of some more Warmachine and Hordes figures.  No more sliding about for these brutes! Research & Reading I've not looked into anything much but I have been watching SAS Rogue Heroes on BBC.  I made a conscious effort to disengage my inner WW2 nerd and just enjoy it as a comic book bit of fun.  And it has been enjoyable, I've just got the one episode to go now. Incoming! A small order from the ever reliable Warbases arrived on Saturday.  This was a couple of packs of 20x40mm bases for the Ogres and a nice little 10mm Elizabethan style cottage that I've had my eye on for awhile.  Outgoing  As mentioned last w

I'm pleased to say that I'm feeling much better and as the week has progressed I've felt more like hobbying. Painting/modelling   I've been continuing to work on the two 10mm  Ogre Bull regiments for Warmaster Revolution.  The painting is almost complete, but being a resin rookie I failed to notice the bases were warped so I've been looking at how to sort these out so I can complete them.  I've started on two 10mm Chaos Dwarf Blunderbuss regiments for Warmaster Revolution.  Over the weekend I didn't have the patience to do any proper painting and thought they'd be an easy way to at least do something as Covid left me.  And you know what thought did?  As well as warping, I've started to discover how brittle resin is, so I had a bit of fixing to do before I could prime them.  But they're all now ready to start painting once the ogres are done. I've done a tiny bit more of the 1/76th Stug IIIG from Butler's Printed Models.  As soon as the Og

Chaos Dwarf axemen

As mentioned in last week's update I finally finished off the first two Chaos Dwarf regiments.  They took a bit longer than anticipated mainly due to contracting the dreaded Covid-19, but I got there in the end. These were the first 3D printed figures I've painted and the first 10mm fantasy figures. They take acrylic very well, in fact I used regular AP Matt Black as the primer, without bothering with my usual enamel primer.  They are a bit brittle with a number of broken axe heads.  However, with careful use of tweezers and superglue and a fair bit of swearing the bits reattach reasonably well.    I do like the way they look en masse which is the whole point of using smaller scales.  At the minute I'm still finding my feet with honing a painting technique.  I have painted quite a lot of 10mm when I did my Punic Wars forces, but these are the first that are in strips and I'm spending a lot of time correcting where I've touched an adjacent figure.  I'm also find

Unwanted miniatures needing new homes

In trying to instil some order to my collection over the last couple of weeks, I collected together all the minis that will never get on the table.  These are ones from long abandoned projects.  Rather than have them taking up valuable storage space (and yes we're at the stage where even a few spaces counts) I've decided to try and find new homes for them.  They're up on eBay, if you have any questions pop them in the comments and I'll get back to you. 28mm Artizan Designs WW2 SAS/LRDG  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768757149 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768775435 Warlord Games 28mm plastic WW2 Waffen SS https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768770708 Perry Miniatures 28mm Ninjas https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768783803 Peter Pig 15mm WW2 British/Commonwealth 14th Army https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768789616 Peter Pig 15mm WW2 Japanese Burma/Far East https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768817711

The hobby week - 29 October to 04 November

Much of this week has been a real struggle.  Since contracting Covid last week I've felt very tired and woozy, had trouble concentrating and had to really force myself to do much at times.  I really hope this doesn't last too much longer.  Painting/modelling   I've finally finished the two 10mm Chaos Dwarf regiments for Warmaster Revolution.  For 10mm I've probably spent far too much time on them but overall they're quite pleasing.  I'll take some more pics of these and do a proper post when I feel more like it. Staying with Warmaster Revolution and 10mm, I've started two Ogre Bull regiments.  These are lovely little models, the size of a (fat) human in 15mm so I have plenty of experience doing this size of mini.   They're printed in a staggered formation, three to a base with space between each figure and are proving a joy to paint.  I've been spending a bit more time trying to tidy up my collection and storing like with like.  It's an ongoing j
