Major Ballsup's Hobby Shed

I lost my mojo at the end of May and this continued on through June.  It happens to all of us at times.  Sometimes a change of project or emphasis is all that's needed and sometimes you just grit your teeth and push on.  Sometimes a few days away from doing anything hobby related is all that's needed.  For the first half of the month I tried the first two of those options, but by mid June I had to use the third.  I had a couple of days of hobby cold turkey, with no hobby related activity at all including not even looking at any social media.   Then after a couple of particularly frustrating days in the real world, I felt the need to paint just to feel I was in control of something.  And that seems to have got me back on track.  I've kept up with limiting my phone use and looking at social media, news etc. and I'm finding that's helping.  There's so many arseholes out there, that even the good things can be spoilt.   The la...

Introduction We return to The Garden of Statis in the Eternal City.  The folk of The Dreaming City - agile and fast Elven warriors led by Commander Varnik take on the Undead of Soregade the Necromancer.   Set up This was a game of Sword Weirdos using the Treasure Surprise scenario from the rules.  Each side was 86 points.   Round 1 Round 1 starting positions Soregade's Undead grasps the Initiative and the bad lad himself moves forward his maximum 2 SPD, which sees him splashing into the central pool.  He doesn't have enough actions left to Interact and grab the chest so that's his turn over.   Using his superior elven speed, Feneric moves 3 sticks to be next to a chest, ready to claim it next turn. The Bane Knight does similar on the other side of the garden, but as he only has a Spd of 2 he can't quite reach the chest. Seeing the Bane Knight positioning itself to grab a chest, Ederic move twice and then fires his pistol at the undead....

I didn't manage to reach the hobby heights  of January this month.  Strangely enough feeling better has impacted hobby time as I've felt well enough to do other things but it's all swings and roundabouts. Completed Here's what I completed during the month: 20mm Platoon 20 Vietnamese civilians.  The majority of the painting for these was done last month, with just some highlights, varnishing and basing to be completed.  They're nice "classic" wargames miniatures, not over fussy or detailed and for those newbies only used to plastic or 3D print figures probably appear basic, to which I’d say bollocks. 15mm 16th Century arquebusiers.  I finished off the rebasing of 22 Essex Miniatures figures onto single 15mm round magnetised bases.  This gives the flexibility for keeping them as singles for  skirmish and forming units for larger games. I need to work out how to base the pike and musketeers, in a way that captures the era but is also practical for gaming,...

May has been a funny old month both hobby and real life wise.  There's been lots of disruption with a move of location at work, and a visit to the doctors amongst other things to disturb my equilibrium.  The hobby has taken a bit of a back seat and my motivation dipped to the point where I didn't do much hobbying at all mid-month.  Thankfully by the last week of the month I was feeling more like it. Completed I didn't complete too much this month: Four 28mm Apaches from Gringos 40s.  Very nice figures, I struggled with these as I've never been great at painting large areas of skin and I'm not sure I did them justice.   From something that's new to one of my oldest outstanding items, I finally finished the 15mm Hetzer that's been sitting on the table since last year.  Once I got down to work it took no time all, which makes me wonder why I didn't get it done sooner.  This was a nice little 3D print, that was a freebie  from Plastic Soldier Com...
