May 2025 hobby update

Image
May has been a funny old month both hobby and real life wise.  There's been lots of disruption with a move of location at work, and a visit to the doctors amongst other things to disturb my equilibrium.  The hobby has taken a bit of a back seat and my motivation dipped to the point where I didn't do much hobbying at all mid-month.  Thankfully by the last week of the month I was feeling more like it. Completed I didn't complete too much this month: Four 28mm Apaches from Gringos 40s.  Very nice figures, I struggled with these as I've never been great at painting large areas of skin and I'm not sure I did them justice.   From something that's new to one of my oldest outstanding items, I finally finished the 15mm Hetzer that's been sitting on the table since last year.  Once I got down to work it took no time all, which makes me wonder why I didn't get it done sooner.  This was a nice little 3D print, that was a freebie  from Plastic Soldier Com...

Sword Weirdos - Elizabethans

Image
England 1586.  Sir Francis Walsingham, the Queen's spy master, has learnt that a Spanish Catholic Priest is preaching "Popish heresy" and inciting treason against good Queen Elizabeth.  He has tracked the man, Father Sebastiano, down to the remote house of Sir Roderick Greenplume, a suspected Catholic sympathiser and has sent men under Sir Sidney Hyde to apprehend the Catholics and bring them to the Tower for "hard questioning". Sebastiano and Sir Roderick.  He must avoid killing them if at all possible, although this is preferable to their escape.  If the rest of the Catholics fall in the struggle so be it.   If Fr. Sebastiano can reach the tree line at the edge of the board he is deemed to have escaped. ...

A new year and the first monthly hobby update.  After some family dramas to start the year, thankfully things have settled down and January has proved to be a very productive month.  Completed I'm continuing on where I left off from last year in getting stuff done: First of all I polished off a baker's dozen of 20mm Second World War Red Army infantry.  These are now sold by Battlezone Miniatures but they are Sgt. Major Miniatures sculpts.  Bread and butter work for me and a nice early success for the year. You can see more of them here .  While I was working on the above, I was also painting my last four 28mm Victrix Vikings with heads swapped  with ones from other Victrix sets.  There's more of these here . With some figures off the table, I went on to a bit of terrain work.  One of my aims for 2025 is to produce or improve at least one piece of terrain per month: I made some multiple tree bases out of a miniature Christmas tree.  You  ...
