Demons in the mouse house* - A Burrows & Badgers AAR

With Spring hopefully not too far away it was time to rouse my Burrows & Badgers warbands from hibernation and play another game.       Setup Once again arch-enemies Werdna Thunderfoot's Royalists and Mellifluous Malachi's Wildbeasts would take up arms against each other. The Royalists.  L-R;  Nainama the Sparrow; Beriys the Adder Mage; Werdna Thunderfoot the Hare (Leader); Apodemus the Mouse Ranger; Briar Far-sting the Rabbit Archer; Lutralus River Blade the Otter (Second)   The Wildbeasts.  L-R Putor the Ferret; Woodpaw the Weasel; Mellifluous Malachi the Fox (Leader); Salien the Toad Mage; Shakey Bart the Weasel; McGranite the Ferret (Second)  This game is based upon Scenario 3, Defend the Haul, from the rule book.  Mellifluous Malachi's Wildbeasts have taken over a mouse house while the owner is away.  The evicted rodent has sought the help of Werdna Thunderfoot's Royalists to take back his rightful dwelling. Warlords of Goria III - the Final - A Warlords of Eherwon/Celtos AAR

Image
Introduction Since the semi-finals took place ( here and here ), I've been trying to get a long enough time slot to play the Goria final.  This weekend I finally got that chance.  The big match was between the Fir Bolg (Undead) who had previously trounced the Formorians (Orcs and Goblins), and the Sidhe (Elves) who beat the Gaels (Humans).  I used the same selections as I did for the previous games with the exception of adding a Cyclops to the Fir Bolg force to bring the points up to the Sidhe level of about 800 points.  You can see the lists  here .  Set up To help randomise the game I number each unit and each order dice.  Then when I draw the order dice I play the appropriately numbered unit.  I also use this to randomly deploy the units, avoiding unconsciously matching up units during set up.  As an order dice is picked from the bag I deploy the unit working from top to bottom of the table/mat.  Starting point (Sidhe at top) Turn 1 T...

Warlords of Goria II - Another Warlords of Eherwon/Celtos AAR

Introduction Since my first game ( AAR here ) I've been itching to get back to Goria.  This time I played with the Fir Bolg and Formorians from my collection.  I used selections from the Orc and Goblin lists from The Warlords of Eherwon book for the Formorians, and the Undead for the Fir Bolg.  I had to do a bit of work to convert the Celtos Flesh Eaters but otherwise I used the troops straight from the WoE book.  I've put the lists here for those interested. Set up I had already assigned a number 1-6 for each unit of each faction and marked each command dice appropriately to help randomise activation and I extended this idea to deploy the units randomly.  I rolled a D6 to place each unit on the table working top to bottom.  This helped avoid me unconsciously matching up units as I deployed them, something that can happen with solo games.  Starting positions Fir Bolg to the left. Turn 1 As expected the first turn was all about movement with some except...

Warlords of Goria - A Warlords of Eherwon/Celtos AAR

Image
Introduction I've been wanting to try out Warlords of Erehwon with my Celtos figures for awhile now.  I played a test game in September and last week got the opportunity to play a full game using the same forces, Sidhe  and Gaels.  I used the Army Lists for Barbarians and Elves in the Warlords of Erehwon rule book and the points values document from Rick Priestley's website  and it was easy to transpose these to represent the Gael and Sidhe troop types from the Celtos rules.  I didn't do much to take into account the nuances of hte Celtos rulebook so the points values were probably off and I'll probably redo these at some stage.  To even up the points (around 800 for each side), I took a unit of Gael Berserkers (who appear in the Celtos Gael army book not in the core rules).  To represent the Gael Staff Sling I made it a one shot sling for missile purposes and a spear for hand to hand combat.   I used the spells from Warlords of Erehwon rathe...

It might have taken six years since buying my first figures to have finally played a game, but here's another one a week later!   Setup Following on from the last engagement the two warbands, Werdna Thunderfoot's Royalists and Mellifluous Malachi's Wildbeasts once again cross swords (amongst other weapons). The Royalists.  L-R;  Nainama the Sparrow; Beriys the Adder Mage;  Lutralus River Blade the Otter (Second) Werdna Thunderfoot the Hare (Leader) Briar Far-sting the Rabbit Archer; Apodemus the Mouse Ranger  The Wildbeasts.  L-R McGranite the Ferret (Second) Salien the Toad Mage; Mellifluous Malachi the Fox (Leader) Putor the Ferret; Shakey Bart the Weasel Bitter Sydney the Shrew This game used scenario 2 from the rule book - Ambush the Camp.  The Royalists' Secondary Objectives was Defend, the Wildbeasts' Secondary Objectives was Isolate.  The Royalists (R) are the defenders, so the Wildbeasts (W) go first and get 3 moves bef...
