10mm Ogre Kingdoms army

Image
It's been a little while since I finished the last of these so I thought I'd take some shots of the whole flabby ensemble. As with the Chaos Dwarf army there's 1,000 points or so here.  With the Ogres that's not too many figures to paint up so if someone wanted a quickish army to paint up then they'd be a good choice.  I was alternating painting these and the Chaos Dwarfs, but I think I could have got these done quite quickly if I'd have focused on these alone. As I've mentioned in the posts where I completed each unit, these were great fun and really enjoyable to paint, breakages aside of course.   I recently had the misfortune to be on a train when a certain football clubs fans were also travelling and I couldn't help but think of these!

Chaos Dwarf General and Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant

Image
I finished off the 10mm Warmaster Revolution project by painting the Chaos Dwarf General and Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant.  The Chaos Dwarf General came moulded on quite a nice scenic base, which set the miniature off well.   The figure itself was easy to paint being very simple with not too much on him really. All axe and hat! The Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant is a hulking great brute as would be expected.  Really lovely figure to paint full of detail. The original that MGS Miniatures provided in the order last year had the haft of the axe missing, I suppose it's what they called a failed print.  I contacted MGS and then had to chase them, but they did get round to sending me the replacement so I was able to finish the army.  That's the 10mm Warmaster Revolution project finished for the time being.  I'll do some photos of each army next and post them.

10mm Ogre Rhinox Riders

Image
The final unit to bring my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army up to 1000 points is this unit of Rhinox Riders.  These are 3D printed figures by Teremki Studios and bought from MGS Miniatures.   The Teremki scuplts have been lovely to work on.  They're easy to paint being like chunky 15mm and are full of little details.  I really like the Rhinoxes.  Each one is subtly different.  They were a bit of a pain to fit on the bases but I think they look alright.  There's been the usual breakages problem which I've had with both the Ogres and the Chaos Dwarfs.  The most noticeable with this batch being the missing horn blower's horn.  He now looks like he's eating the end of a baguette!   If MGS Miniatures ever get round to sending me the replacement Ogre Tyrant for the failed print they sent in my original order then I'll be able to finish the army!

10mm Gnoblars

Image
The latest addition to the 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army is this unit of Gnoblars.  These are 3D printed figures by Teremki Studios bought from  MGS Miniatures .  All of the Teremeki sculpts have been excellent and enjoyable to paint.  The detail on these are better than a lot of metal 28mm figures in my opinion.  I had a bit of practice getting the skin right when I did the Ogre Leadbelchers which was very handy.  The cheeky little scamps have come up well.  There's a few missing weapons and maybe a limb or two but life is too short to try and reattach these and they don't really notice when they're all in a mass.

10mm Ogre Leadbelchers

Image
Next up for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army is this unit of Leadbelchers.  As with the rest of the army these are 3D printed figures by Teremki Studios and bought from  MGS Miniatures .   I turned these around quickly, having learnt a lot when I did the Bulls and Ironguts .  I've thoroughly enjoyed painting all of these miniatures.  This unit even had a few Gnoblars with them, they are just full of character.  This gave me a bit of practice getting the colours for the Gnoblar skin right, as my next unit is 36 of the little buggers. Here's a shot of the boys on a day out in the countryside.

January 2023 hobby update

Image
I've decided to switch to monthly rather than the weekly updates which I did for all of 2022.  I'll still be posting when I complete something, but time is very precious at the moment so this works much better for me.   Completed This month I've completed the following:   A regiment of 10mm Ogre Ironguts for my Ogre Kingdoms Warmaster Revolution army which you can see  here .   Six 28mm Norse warriors for my Ragnarok project.  You can see more of them here . I prepared a load of 2ps to use for bases for 28mm plastics.  This involved giving the edges a good thick coat of Humbrol Khaki enamel, followed by a couple of coats of Vallejo German Camouflage Black Brown, then varnished in Humbrol Gloss and finally a coat of  Vallejo Satin varnish to tone the gloss shine down.   In progress The following are on the table as January ends: A regiment of 36 10mm Hobgoblins for my Chaos Dwarf Warmaster Revolution army.  These are v...

10mm Ogre Ironguts

Image
My first completed unit for 2023 is a regiment of Ogre Ironguts for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army.  These chubby brutes were the first 10mm 3D printed figures that I bought.  The sculpts are by Teremki Studios and I bought them from MGS Miniatures .  I was so pleased with them I promptly ordered two full armies - these and a Chaos Dwarf one.   I'd learnt a lot when doing the Ogre Bull regiments so managed to turn the Ironguts around much more quickly and less painfully.  As with all the Ogres, they'd been printed three to a base, but this time I clipped them into singles BEFORE painting them which helped save a lot of swearing and grief!    The printed bases are too thin for handling during gaming so I stick them on Warbases 2mm 20x40mm MDF bases anyway.   I added a layer of Milliput to build up the levels, then a layer of Vallejo texture, paint with Dulux emulsion that I had made to match Citadel Dheneb Stone, added s...

The hobby week - 31 December to 06 January

Image
It's been a productive week hobby wise with a positive start to the year.  I'm keeping to the plan ! I assembled, based and blocked in the main colours for six 28mm Norse warriors for my Ragnarok project.  A few of them can also do double duty as Germanics for the Late-Roman project that I'm just starting on.  The majority of the parts came from the Victrix Dark Age Archers set, but I added in some spares from a Viking sprue and did some cutting and replacing of hands to make some bondi with hand weapons rather than all bowmen.  Norse warriors in progress I prepared and started painting a regiment of 10mm Ogre Ironguts for my Ogre Kingdoms Warmaster Revolution army.  Now I've got the method down it didn't take long to chip and cut each one off their group 3D printed base and mount on individual temporary bases for painting.  They're so close together on the printed bases that it's very tricky to get a brush between the figures without splodging paint on th...

The hobby week - 19 November to 25 November

Image
I've had a decent week hobby wise. I've made steady progress with a regiment of 10mm Chaos Dwarf Blunderbusses for Warmaster Revolution.  Learning from my first batch of Chaos Dwarfs I split a lot of the strips as I find them easier to paint this way.  They're quirky, characterful little models which is why I chose to collect this army.  I've done more of the Stug IIIG that's been sitting on the table for ages.  Just details and weathering to do now. Dwarfs and a Stug in progress I've finished adding the magnets to my Warmachine and Hordes figures.  I like mixing this sort of practical, straightforward job with painting.  Handling the figures gives me a real appreciation of what lovely sculpts most of them are.  If I say so myself there's some decent paint jobs as well. Warmachine   Hordes I got the time to take some photos and write a post about the 10mm Ogres that I finished last week.  You can see the ugly, fat blighters  here ....

Ogre Bulls

Image
Finally here's the first two units for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army.  These are two units of Ogre Bulls, the mainstay of any Ogre force.   I thought these would be simple to do but what with Covid and brittle resin they seemed to be thwarting me.  I got there in the end and I'm pleased with how they've come out.  They're incredibly detailed little models, something that could probably only be achieved with 3D design and printing.   They were printed three to a base and the original plan was to leave them on the bases.  However, the base was only 1mm deep so it would have been difficult to move them without touching the models when playing.  Having now gained an appreciation for how brittle tiny bits of resin are I didn't want to  be continually repairing my lovingly painted models.  I'd also already broken two of the bases which made up my mind for me.  I cut/broke some of the models off to leave a mixture of...
