Background Both the Elven band of Dyvima, and the Dwarves of Bigae Elf Woe have been seeking an enchanted cottage.  If they can claim the ancient dwelling they will gain secrets from the old times to help their people.  The Fates have intervened and both groups have converged on the cottage at the same time,  There is only one way to settle the claim and that is by combat.   The forces This is a 75 point game of Sword Weirdos.  The Elves are led by Dyvima, a Fighter/Healer and comprise of another Fighter and two Archers.  Bigae Elf Woe a Commander/Pit Fighter leads a Dwarven Berserker, a Dwarven Fighter and a Human Hunter.  Full rosters can be found here .  Set up This game is a variant of the Objectively Normal Scenario on page 12 of the Sword Weirdos rules.  Rather than have a number of objectives, the aim is to have as many combatants be within 1/2 a stick of the enchanted cottage at the end of the final turn to claim the dwellin...

It's been four months since I last worked on my Verrotwood project, but I've made up for it lately.  This month I've built another cult ( here ) and knocked out a trio of creatures.  The Greater Reanimated (undead) was a  simple kit bash.  The body is an Oathmark Elf with the arms and head from a Frostgrave Cultists sprue (the bits from my one sprue have gone a long way)!   The Madman was even simpler.  He's a Mantic Games Ghoul, with a Victrix Viking head.  I've had a couple of these ghouls lying about for over 12 years so it was good to use one.  The Victrix head is beautifully sculpted/rendered and with the massive beard works very well for a forest dwelling nutter.   The final figure is Baba Yaga, a 3d printed miniature from Clay Cyanide I got off eBay the other year.  It's a superbly detailed miniature but I went very minimalist with the painting.  I wanted to use this figure as a ghost or apparition, so I just painte...

I recently finished off my second cult for Verrotwood - they are The Uncoiling of Beiysss. These were very simple kit bashes.  The bodies all came from the Frostgrave Male Wizards from NorthStar.  I'd got a frame of these free when I pre-ordered a certain weird First World War rule set last year.  The arms are all from the Frostgrave Cultists set that I had lying about from years ago, when I'd made a group of Old West cultists using arms from Great Escape Cowboys. The spear wielder has Wizards arms with Cultists hands and spear grafted on. The Uncoiling are the faithful who worship the Great Serpent Beiysss.  They believe that by following this entity they will gain power over the other Cults and be embraced into his coils in eternal life. The cult favour edged weapons dripping with serpent poison.  They prefer to close with their enemies but concede that they need some ranged capability hence the crossbow equipped cultist. I recently finished off my first cult for Verotwood - they are the Wisentii. I used the Frostgrave Barbarians from Northstar to make them, two from the male and two from the female set.  The Sprue Shop were doing a deal of a frame of each at a slightly reduced price and that met my needs very well.  They're built entirely from those sprues.  I didn't do any kit bashing using parts from other kits, as I could complete my concept for the cult from just the Barbarian sprues. The Wisentii are a cult devoted to the ancient forest bison.  In the times before the tolling of the bells and the shadow falling across the Verrotwood, the bison were a mainstay of their lives providing everything they needed, in the manner of Native American Plains Indians. Even though the bison are gone, the Wisentii still revere the mighty beasts.  Each member takes on an aspect of the bison.  The Heart is the leader of the cult.  The Hooves are the muscle to trample the enem...

Here we are for the last monthly update of 2023.  I hope everyone had a great Christmas time and I wish you all the best for the New Year.  May your brushes always keep their points and may your dice roll the numbers you need.  This is quite a long update, as I've had a bit of time off and managed to crack on.  Completed I completed the following this month: I finally drilled the holes and attached the magnets for the bases of the 28mm Second World War Feldgendarmerie that I completed in the summer.  While I had the Dremel out I drilled the magnet holes for all the 25mm MDF bases that I had and also managed to get the collet well and truly stuck!   Copplestone Castings Partisans.  Sold as part of the Back of Beyond Russian Civil War range, these are great figures that I'll be using for Second World War games.  You can see more here .
