August 2026 hobby update

This is the longest update for quite some time, as August has been a very successful hobby month.  Although I've been very busy in the real world too, I seem to have got into the flow and organised my time better.  I haven't agonised over things and just got them done.  I've also played a few games which I find motivates me to do more. Completed Quite a few things finished this month: Essex Miniatures15mm late 15th Castilian jinetes for the Fall of Granada project.  I started these last month and got them polished off in the first week of August.  This gives me a couple of units for the 2/3rd sized units I am initially using for Lion Rampant.  The 20mm Indian/Afghanistan buildings that I'd assembled and textured last month were next to be worked on.  Before painting them, I'd spent some time looking at photos of Punjabi buildings, some of which were very colourful, so rather than do the usual creamy white ones, I gave these very earthy tones.  The...

Verrotwood game 12 - The Reapers' Scythes

Introduction "It is spoken that during the Conjunction at the place where the trees thin, beyond a veil of mist, there lies a majestic golden field, where brave fools can harvest Favor as easily as if it were oats or barley.  But beware The Reapers' Scythes." The Cultists of The Uncoiling of Beiysss and Wisentii, have left the Verrotwood and found the Field of Favor.  Paused at the edge of the field they begin the harvest. Set up The game is played on a small board 36x24 inches over four rounds.  Uniquely for a game of  Verrotwood, the only forest terrain is placed at the edge of the board.  All the action will take place in the open field.  A Cultist can go Prone to gain cover, but there is no other cover.   Four Reapers guard the field and begin the game stationed at the four cardinal points.  These are Greater Reanimated, as per the main Verrotwood rules.  However, they move at 6 rather than 4 inches.  Additionally their scythes ...
