April 2026 hobby update

Image
Well darn it, we're a third of the way through 2026 already.  April has been a bit less stressful month than March real world wise, just steadily working through my stuff. April always means Salute for me and you can read my thoughts on the show here .  The end of April is also where I take stock of my progress in the year to date.  You can see how I've been doing with my projects here and with gaming here . Completed Here's what I completed during the month: 20mm Platoon 20 French Indo-China War Vietnamese.  I completed four pairs of porters, a mule team and the artillery crew this month.  Porters and mules were a vital part of the Vietnamese war effort.  They add something a little different to the table and they've come out rather well.  I based the recoilless rifle and all the crew on small magnetised bases then made a base out of magnetic receptive sheet as I'd done for my Ancient Germans and Imperial Romans.  This gives me the flexibility of...

February 2025 hobby update

Image
Well February has come and gone.  Apart from a week where I'd picked up a nasty cold (from having to sit with daft people at work that shouldn't have been in), it's been quite a good month with more hobby progress. Completed I've completed: A trio of Victrix Ancient Germans that I did as generic Dark Age warriors.  More of these here . Seven 20mm Second World War Red Army Assault Engineers.  These were really great Sgt.Major Miniatures figures that I completed quite quickly  Four 20mm Second World War German Grenadiers.  More Sgt.Major Miniatures sculpts you can see more of these and the Red Army here .  That's all my 20mm completed. Two 28mm Burrows & Badgers squirrels.  A lovely pair of miniatures, you can see more of them here . As I did in January, once I'd completed some figures I turned to terrain: I completed a couple of wooded areas for smaller scale games.  I'll post a step by step guide for these next month. In progress On the table ...

November 2023 Hobby update

Image
Quite a long update this month so buckle up and stick with it.  I felt that I spent last month going up a blind alley, but now I'm back on track.  I've finished a few things off and had a clear out which you can read about under Ramblings below. Completed I spent the first days of November finishing up the following: Wargames Atlantic First World War Germans.   Great War Miniatures First World War Germans Warlord Games Second World War Winter Germans repurposed as First World War.  You can see more photos and read about my thoughts on the above  here . I then polished off some more Victrix figures: I completed five more of the Dark Age Archers that have been sitting around for awhile.  I made two as generic Dark Age warriors and one as a Gothic archer.  The other two I combined with parts from the late-Roman Archers sprue (see below) to make some staff slingers.  While working on the above I made up the Late Roman Archers and Slingers sp...

The hobby week - 12 November to 18 November

Image
I've had a busy week work wise so haven't got too much done. The majority of the hobby time I've had has been spent finishing the two 10mm Ogre Bull regiments for Warmaster Revolution.  I'm really pleased with them and when time permits I'll take some photos and do a post on them.   The only other thing I've done was to add magnets to the bases of some more Warmachine and Hordes figures.  No more sliding about for these brutes! Research & Reading I've not looked into anything much but I have been watching SAS Rogue Heroes on BBC.  I made a conscious effort to disengage my inner WW2 nerd and just enjoy it as a comic book bit of fun.  And it has been enjoyable, I've just got the one episode to go now. Incoming! A small order from the ever reliable Warbases arrived on Saturday.  This was a couple of packs of 20x40mm bases for the Ogres and a nice little 10mm Elizabethan style cottage that I've had my eye on for awhile.  Outgoing  As mentione...

Unwanted miniatures needing new homes

Image
In trying to instil some order to my collection over the last couple of weeks, I collected together all the minis that will never get on the table.  These are ones from long abandoned projects.  Rather than have them taking up valuable storage space (and yes we're at the stage where even a few spaces counts) I've decided to try and find new homes for them.  They're up on eBay, if you have any questions pop them in the comments and I'll get back to you. 28mm Artizan Designs WW2 SAS/LRDG  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768757149 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768775435 Warlord Games 28mm plastic WW2 Waffen SS https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768770708 Perry Miniatures 28mm Ninjas https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768783803 Peter Pig 15mm WW2 British/Commonwealth 14th Army https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768789616 Peter Pig 15mm WW2 Japanese Burma/Far East https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234768817711
