15mm Tudor house make over

Image
Last October I bought a 15mm Tudor House from Warbases to see whether it would work alongside my  Hovels Tudor buildings I've had for a dozen or so years ago.  The Warbases house ( link here ) is as you'd expect a simple MDF kit.  It's nice enough but by it's very nature is flat and therefore a bit dull, especially compared to the Hovels building which is full of character.  It's also got a larger footprint than the Hovels one which is fine for skirmish games maybe not so much for battles.  I decided to give it a makeover. Before I did anything I painted the inside of the building with matt emulsion paint coloured matched to Vallejo Model Colour Leather Brown.  Then I started work.  First off I added wooden beams.  Using the lines marked on the kit as a guide, I cut strips of coffee stirrers roughly 1mm wide by 1mm deep and stuck them on with PVA.  I trimmed them to absolute length when they were stuck down.   When all the beams wer...

April 2025 hobby update

Image
April has been and gone and a third of 2025 with it.  It's been quite a busy hobby month with Salute in the middle, which I've always seen as the start of my hobby year  As much as possible I’ve tried to clear any bits and pieces that have been hanging about for awhile. Completed I finished off the figures I'd started on before going away at the end of March: Six 28mm Victrix Armoured Rus warriors.  That's the last of the Dark Age figures for now and you can see more  here . 28mm Oathsworn Miniatures Burrows & Badgers Kingfisher Warrior and Badger Mage.  The last of my Oathsworn, you can see more here . I also started on the revamp of the 16th C collection.  I rebased some of the figures and added magnets to these and a few others that were already on round 15mm bases.  I've got a fair number to do so I'll just do a few as and when between other jobs over the next couple of months.  On the terrain front I finished: Two 6mm wooded areas.  ...

Wooded areas for small scales

As I've got the number of unpainted figures down to a very manageable level, I'm getting more time to work on terrain.  I'd been meaning to make wooded areas suitable for 6mm games for a while now and chose that as February's terrain project.   I was inspired by a video from that wargaming stalwart and all-round decent fella, Big Lee Hadley of Big Lee's Miniatures Adventures.  If you're thinking of doing similar I recommend watching Lee's video .  I thoroughly recommend Lee's YouTube  channel and his blog . The materials I used were: MDF bases; scourer pads; 2.5 mm diameter dowelling; scatter/clump foliage material; static grass; flock; sand mix; super glue and PVA glue.  Here's the steps: 1. Prepare the bases.  For the test piece I used a 90x52mm sized 3mm deep oval base.  I'd roughly bevelled the edge of each base using a Stanley knife with a tough blade and  then sanded each edge to increase the bevel when I'd made the winter trees (...
