Demons in the mouse house* - A Burrows & Badgers AAR

Image
With Spring hopefully not too far away it was time to rouse my Burrows & Badgers warbands from hibernation and play another game.       Setup Once again arch-enemies Werdna Thunderfoot's Royalists and Mellifluous Malachi's Wildbeasts would take up arms against each other. The Royalists.  L-R;  Nainama the Sparrow; Beriys the Adder Mage; Werdna Thunderfoot the Hare (Leader); Apodemus the Mouse Ranger; Briar Far-sting the Rabbit Archer; Lutralus River Blade the Otter (Second)   The Wildbeasts.  L-R Putor the Ferret; Woodpaw the Weasel; Mellifluous Malachi the Fox (Leader); Salien the Toad Mage; Shakey Bart the Weasel; McGranite the Ferret (Second)  This game is based upon Scenario 3, Defend the Haul, from the rule book.  Mellifluous Malachi's Wildbeasts have taken over a mouse house while the owner is away.  The evicted rodent has sought the help of Werdna Thunderfoot's Royalists to take back his rightful dwelling. The Wildbeasts have the lowest Warband rating so are

10mm Ogre Leadbelchers

Image
Next up for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Ogre Kingdoms army is this unit of Leadbelchers.  As with the rest of the army these are 3D printed figures by Teremki Studios and bought from  MGS Miniatures .   I turned these around quickly, having learnt a lot when I did the Bulls and Ironguts .  I've thoroughly enjoyed painting all of these miniatures.  This unit even had a few Gnoblars with them, they are just full of character.  This gave me a bit of practice getting the colours for the Gnoblar skin right, as my next unit is 36 of the little buggers. Here's a shot of the boys on a day out in the countryside.

10mm Hobgoblins

The latest unit for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution Chaos Dwarf army is a regiment of Hobgoblins.  There's 36 of these pesky varmints in the unit, 12 to a base.  The sculpts are by  AnkyloMiniatures, bought as part of an army deal from  MGS Miniatures .   These are lovely characterful sculpts, the details are incredible on something so small, and I doubt could have been achieved on anything apart from 3d sculpts.  This is a mixed unit with archers, close combat troops and even some Sneaky Gits mixed in.  This gives great variety on each strip with none of them the same.  The Chaos Dwarf army is coming along well now.  I'm aiming to get most of it done by Salute.

Warlords of Goria III - the Final - A Warlords of Eherwon/Celtos AAR

Image
Introduction Since the semi-finals took place ( here and here ), I've been trying to get a long enough time slot to play the Goria final.  This weekend I finally got that chance.  The big match was between the Fir Bolg (Undead) who had previously trounced the Formorians (Orcs and Goblins), and the Sidhe (Elves) who beat the Gaels (Humans).  I used the same selections as I did for the previous games with the exception of adding a Cyclops to the Fir Bolg force to bring the points up to the Sidhe level of about 800 points.  You can see the lists  here .  Set up To help randomise the game I number each unit and each order dice.  Then when I draw the order dice I play the appropriately numbered unit.  I also use this to randomly deploy the units, avoiding unconsciously matching up units during set up.  As an order dice is picked from the bag I deploy the unit working from top to bottom of the table/mat.  Starting point (Sidhe at top) Turn 1 The battle gets off to a bloody start with the

January 2023 hobby update

Image
I've decided to switch to monthly rather than the weekly updates which I did for all of 2022.  I'll still be posting when I complete something, but time is very precious at the moment so this works much better for me.   Completed This month I've completed the following:   A regiment of 10mm Ogre Ironguts for my Ogre Kingdoms Warmaster Revolution army which you can see  here .   Six 28mm Norse warriors for my Ragnarok project.  You can see more of them here . I prepared a load of 2ps to use for bases for 28mm plastics.  This involved giving the edges a good thick coat of Humbrol Khaki enamel, followed by a couple of coats of Vallejo German Camouflage Black Brown, then varnished in Humbrol Gloss and finally a coat of  Vallejo Satin varnish to tone the gloss shine down.   In progress The following are on the table as January ends: A regiment of 36 10mm Hobgoblins for my Chaos Dwarf Warmaster Revolution army.  These are very nearly done, just some details left to complete. A re
