November 2025 hobby update

Image
Birthday, A&E, ECG, Doctors, chest pains clinic, ECG, dentist, blood tests.  What a fun packed month it's been!  You think you know what's coming don't you, that I didn't do much hobby wise.  On the contrary dear reader, the thought of one's possible demise has given me a good old kick up the arse to get on with stuff.   Completed  Here's what I finished off during the month: 37 Heroics & Ros 6mm Soviet Paratroops finished as Iraqi Republican Guard.  This is a full platoon with a HMG support.  I also based a BRDM-2 that had been hanging about. Still with The Iran-Iraq War project I spent some time tidying up the two forces, which was another of those jobs I've been meaning to do for ages and like many of those jobs once you start it takes no time at all to do.  First off I cut some magnetic rubber sheeting to fit in the RUB inserts that Warbases had made for me in the summer.  Then I added some magnets to the base of the end...

March 2025 hobby update

Image
Well darn me that's a quarter of the year gone.  What happened there?  It was a short hobby month as I was away for a week.  With Salute now almost upon us, I wanted to complete as much as possible before the show, but what with being busy work and otherwise before my week away it just didn't happen.  Overall though, I'm pleased with how much I've done or at least is in progress and if not completed by the big day will be completed shortly after. Completed During March I seemed to do a lot of fiddling about and only completed a few bits: First off I completed six Victrix Rus warriors.  Lovely miniatures to work on, I'm very pleased with how they've turned out.  You can see more here . I then based the sample 6mm Heroics & Ros Second World War BEF that I painted the other month, finally finishing them off.  I stuck them on a 2p which I think works well for 6mm, giving them a bit of heft.  I quite like how they've turned out but I'm not sure if ...

November 2023 Hobby update

Quite a long update this month so buckle up and stick with it.  I felt that I spent last month going up a blind alley, but now I'm back on track.  I've finished a few things off and had a clear out which you can read about under Ramblings below. Completed I spent the first days of November finishing up the following: Wargames Atlantic First World War Germans.   Great War Miniatures First World War Germans Warlord Games Second World War Winter Germans repurposed as First World War.  You can see more photos and read about my thoughts on the above  here . I then polished off some more Victrix figures: I completed five more of the Dark Age Archers that have been sitting around for awhile.  I made two as generic Dark Age warriors and one as a Gothic archer.  The other two I combined with parts from the late-Roman Archers sprue (see below) to make some staff slingers.  While working on the above I made up the Late Roman Archers and Slingers sp...

First World War 28mm Germans

I spent much of my hobby time in October and early November working on three batches of 28mm Germans for The First World War/A War Transformed.  This was six each of Great War Miniatures metals, Wargames Atlantic plastics and modified Second World War Warlord Games plastics.  I worked on them simultaneously which proved to be an interesting comparison exercise. First up are the Wargames Atlantic (WA) plastics.  I'd made 18 of these a couple of years ago and bought another frame to pimp up for A War Transformed.  However, after being less than impressed with the rules I decided to build them as straight First World War.  I compared each against the existing figures I'd made and then fiddled about with the arms and heads to make each one different.   In the main they go together well.  However, as with all plastics some arms don't really work with some bodies and there's no instructions or suggestions.  The MG08/15 arms are truly awful and I co...
