Major Ballsup's Hobby Shed

This has probably been my most productive month of the year.  It's definitely the longest update! Completed I've completed quite a bit this month: 15mm Cromarty Forge Ancient Germans and Imperial Romans.  I finally made a decision on how to base the figures that I'd been painting over the last few months.  I've now based and thereby finished: 16 Ancient German archers 16 Ancient German javelin men 8 Early Imperial Roman auxiliaries 8 Early Imperial Roman auxiliary archers They're all based individually to make them usable for as many rule sets as possible.  The missile armed troops are all on 15mm rounds, the rank and file on 12.5mm squares.  I've added 3x1mm magnets to all the bases and I'm working on some movement trays.   Victrix Dark Age Warriors, four from the Viking set and one from the Ancient German set which you can see more of here .  By painting only a handful of these at a time they're a joy rather than a chore. Verrotwood Cultist....

It's been a hectic week at work which has impacted greatly on hobby time so a very quick update.  Painting/modelling  I made a little bit more progress with the Bengal Light Dragoons unit for the First Anglo-Sikh War.  The horses are now complete and started blocking in the colours on the troopers. I based and primed the three British Generals for the Sikh Wars figures.  Research & Reading The plan was to continue reading "The Gempei War 1180–85", which  really wanted to study and absorb.  Therefore, being tired all week I opted for an "easier" read on the commute, turning to "American War" by Omar El Akkad.  This is a bleak apocalyptic fiction set in divided America decimated by viruses and civil war.  I'll not make any further comment.  It's a very good book though. Incoming! No shiny new things to report this week. 

Back to normal Summer time weather in the UK this week - dull as ditch water and around 20 C.  I'm not complaining at all, it certainly makes it easier to do anything.   Painting/modelling   I completed the Apocalyptic/Dark Old West Cultists which you can see here . I cleaned up, primed and started painting a unit of Bengal Light Dragoons for the First Anglo-Sikh War.  This is the last unit I've got left to do for this project.   I cleaned up a pack of three British Generals, the last of the Sikh Wars figures.  Research & Reading After spending time last week looking at Ancients and Medievals and finding nothing to really inspire, I revisited an old interest of Japanese warfare.  And this has inspired me, specifically the Medieval era of the Gempei Wars and the Mongol Invasions.  I'll be posting on this in the next few weeks. Incoming! On the back of my rekindled interest in Medieval Japan I ordered up two Osprey Campaign books....
