November 2024 hobby update

Image
I really can't believe it's the penultimate update of 2024, where has the year gone?  I didn't manage to reach the heights of October, but November has been a steady hobby month with the Early Imperial Roman project entering the end of the first phase.  Completed I've completed quite a bit this month: I've continued basing the 15mm Cromarty Forge figures that I'd painted over the last few months completing: 44 Early Imperial Roman Legionaries 39 Ancient German warriors.  As well as basing these I'd not finished painting the shields , so I did all these while painting the shields for the noble warriors (see below).  The shields took ages to do but they've been worth it as they set the figures off well.  I don't want to paint anymore for a long while though. Still with the 15mm Cromarty Forge, I painted and based 36 Ancient German noble warriors that'd I'd prepared last month.  That's the last unit done with just have a few villager figures...

Warmaster Revolution - Chaos Dwarfs v Ogre Kingdoms

Image
Introduction  After last month's test game, I sat down and read the rules more closely and then gave my Chaos Dwarf and Ogre Kingdoms armies another outing.  I used the previous edition of the rules (version 1.2) and army lists (version 1.22) purely as I had these printed.  I'm not sure what the differences are in the newer version.  All of the rules and army lists can be downloaded for free at  https://www.wm-revolution.com/articles/download.html Set up Each army was just under 1000 pts.   The lists are here . Starting positions, Chaos Dwarfs at the top Turn 1 The Ogres gain initiative but it doesn’t do them much good as Tyrant MountainGut fails his first Command roll and that ends the turn for the Ogres. Flametache, the Chaos Dwarf general does better and sends his Hobgoblin Wolf Riders off to reconnoitre the battlefield.  His next order moves a mixed brigade of Axemen and Blunderbusses forward.  And that’s where the dice fail him and the m...

10mm Chaos Dwarf army

I finally got the time to take a few photos of my Chaos Dwarf Army for Warmaster Revolution that I finished last month.   They're quite a colourful bunch and I'm happy with how they look en masse.  There's about 1000 points worth here, or it was to the previous edition of Warmaster Revolution.  There's recently been a new version which I've yet to really look at, but I hope they haven't fiddled about with the points too much. I now need to study the rules and get on with sorting out a game against the Ogres that I was working on at the same time.

It's been a little while since I finished the last of these so I thought I'd take some shots of the whole flabby ensemble. As with the Chaos Dwarf army there's 1,000 points or so here.  With the Ogres that's not too many figures to paint up so if someone wanted a quickish army to paint up then they'd be a good choice.  I was alternating painting these and the Chaos Dwarfs, but I think I could have got these done quite quickly if I'd have focused on these alone. As I've mentioned in the posts where I completed each unit, these were great fun and really enjoyable to paint, breakages aside of course.   I recently had the misfortune to be on a train when a certain football clubs fans were also travelling and I couldn't help but think of these!

April 2023 Hobby update

Image
April's been a bit of an odd month hobby wise.  I started off very focused and finished off the last few 10mm Warmaster Revolution units early in the month.  I then lost all motivation for about a week with nothing in my hobby stash interesting me enough to work on.  Reading The Centurions started getting me back on track.  Then after prevaricating until 1030 on the day, I made up my mind and went to Salute 50 and had a cracking time which has filled me with enthusiasm as well as filling my hobby stash. Completed This month all of my figure painting has been finishing off the last elements for my 10mm Warmaster Revolution armies.  I've completed the following:   The Chaos Dwarf General. And then for the Ogre Kingdoms: A unit of 6 Ogre Rhinox Riders.    A slave giant. The Ogre Tyrant to lead my Ogre Kingdoms army. In progress The following are in progress: 1/72nd H-21 and H-34 helicopters for the Algerian War project.  These are Pia...
