January 2023 hobby update

I've decided to switch to monthly rather than the weekly updates which I did for all of 2022.  I'll still be posting when I complete something, but time is very precious at the moment so this works much better for me.   Completed This month I've completed the following:   A regiment of 10mm Ogre Ironguts for my Ogre Kingdoms Warmaster Revolution army which you can see  here .   Six 28mm Norse warriors for my Ragnarok project.  You can see more of them here . I prepared a load of 2ps to use for bases for 28mm plastics.  This involved giving the edges a good thick coat of Humbrol Khaki enamel, followed by a couple of coats of Vallejo German Camouflage Black Brown, then varnished in Humbrol Gloss and finally a coat of  Vallejo Satin varnish to tone the gloss shine down.   In progress The following are on the table as January ends: A regiment of 36 10mm Hobgoblins for my Chaos Dwarf Warmaster Revolution army.  These are v...

Celtos, Slaine and heavy metal Celts

I was quite excited at first glance of the Warlord Games email announcing the Slaine miniatures game .  I thought/hoped they'd done the usual Warlord trick and bought up an existing range (in this case the Celtos range from Brigade Models ) and repackaged it.  I have a good sized collection of these and a decent set of rules may see them get some use. Alas, on looking into it properly it is a new range of figures for another Warlord "boutique" game.  Will it be supported properly or will it just disappear in a year or so?  Who knows but it did make me start thinking about Celtos again. This has been the only fantasy game I've really gone for.  I really like the Celtic mythos which I'd first been introduced to as a lad through Michael Moocock's Corum books.   I was also drawn to the superb artwork by Clint Langley who did the Slaine art in 2000AD and I really liked the overall game concept.   I got into the game from the early days in 2002....
