2025 gaming Ovelist check point 3 - end of year update

Here's the final gaming update for 2025.  This is the summary of my gaming from September to the end of the year.  The doing update for the same period can be found here.

As can be seen by the big red crosses I didn't get to play three of the categories of games that I planned to.  I lost all interest in playing any fantasy games part way through the year and this hasn't changed.  I may sell my Warmaster armies in the New Year as I have no interest in the GW setting.  I started wargaming pre Warhammer and by the time it had come out, I’d moved on to guitars and girls, so I have no feelings of nostalgia for it.  I may try them with Midgard, but If I wanted to do fantasy it would be for my own setting or for a literature inspired setting like Conan or one of Moorcock’s settings. 

I didn't play any Wars of French Decolinisation games, not through lack of interest, but because I want to add more terrain items before I play.  I just haven't got round to doing that.  

From what I didn't play onto what I did.  I've played four at  games during this period, one a month.  I did lose my gaming mojo and played less than intended, but any game is better than none isn’t it.

What a Cowboy - what an enjoyable game!  I loved this and will be looking to use if for other genres and periods as well as the core setting.  The AAR is here.

Verrotwood - I played the seventh and eighth games of my Awakening Campaign (AARs here and here).

Second World War - I played another Eastern Front Battlegroup game using forces from the Bagration supplement.  This was using my 1/76th SHQ collection and was a small platoon sized game, resulting in a Soviet victory.  

There we have it.  Not too bad a year of gaming.  I hit my realistic target of 18 games which averaged at 1.5 games per month.  With the real world encroaching quite a lot, I was happy to have played this many.  It beat 2023 by five so that's progress.

The Shootout at El Ande County - A What a Cowboy AAR

In El Ande county The Watchmen* and the Chartwell Boys* have always been rivals.  However, since DM Faultt of the 'Boys took a shine to Carl Walker's girl Kimmie at The Corkin Cheese saloon, things have taken a turn for the worse.  At the abandoned homestead of the Hodges family, the two rival gangs decide to shoot it out. Turn One Starting positions Tony LeGrand (Shootist) is first to activate and his Action Dice are 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5.  The 1 allows him to moves which he does five inches .  At the moment though he can't utilise his other dice so his activation ends. DM Faultt the Gunslinger leader of the Chartwell Boys, is next rolling Action Dice of 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4.  He uses a 1 dice to move 4 inches and the other 1 dice to move a further two inches. This takes him into a good position hunkered down behind a wagon.  At this early stage his other dice can't be used. It's Boy Freeman's turn to activate.  The Shootist rolls an impressive 1, 5, 5, 6, 6, ...

2025 gaming Ovelist - second third update

Here's the 2025 second third update, the summary of my gaming from May to August.  The doing update for the same period can be found here .  This was the gaming Ovelist at the start of 2025 (detail  here ): This was how it looked at the end of April having played six games (detail here ): And here's the current status: I've played eight games during this period, working out at a doable two a month.  I’m very happy with that, especially as I didn't get to play at all in July.   16th Century  - I used the Sword Weirdos rules to play a game set in the Elizabethan era ( AAR here ). Verrotwood  - I picked up my Verrotwood campaign again and played the fifth and sixth games (AARs here and here ). 18th   Century  - I got the 6mm Seven Years War collection out for my biennial game using the Honours of War ruleset ( AAR here ). Victrix Dark Age Archers and Slingers

The last figures I completed in 2024 were a quartet of Victrix Dark Age Archers.  These were my oldest outstanding 28mm miniatures purchased in late 2022.   After completing these I thought it would be interesting to look at all the different figures I made using the Dark Age Archers bodies as the basis.  You get 36 bodies (one piece legs and torso) in each set.  Four are meant as archers, two as slingers.  There are numerous heads, arms and bits.  I sold one spruce which left me with 30 to do.  In reality I only did 28 as I used the legs from two of the archers with some Oathmark Elves. As with all plastic kits some bits work better together than others and Victrix do give instructions as to what bits fit certain bodies.  If you were doing these all as archers for the same army, you’d inevitably end up with some quite similar figures which in my eyes defeats the purpose of using plastics but that's just me.     When you’ve worked o...
