The hobby week - 18 June to 24 June

I managed to get a fair bit of hobby time in this week which included painting some figures.  It's the first ones I've painted since May and it was good to get back to it.

Painting/modelling

  • I finally completed the exteriors of the Spanish/Italian buildings except for the water tower which is still as built.  You can see them here.
  • I've been working on 20mm Sikh Wars artillery crews, for both the Sikh and Anglo-British forces.  They've been cleaned up, primed and painted with just the guns and basing to do.

Research & Reading

  • I've been reading The First Anglo-Sikh War by Amarpal Singh.  This is a fine little book, in two defined sections.  The first part details each battle and the second part is a battlefield guide.  You may think that unless you're actually intending on going to visit the battlefields, that some of the second part isn't that useful, but there's still a lot of good info so don't just skip it all - as I almost did!
  • Wednesday's Warlord Games update email had news that all digital versions of their rulebooks were at 50%.  Of course this sent me scurrying down the rabbit hole.  I've been looking for a rule set to use with my Celtos figures for a long time and like the look of Warlords of Erehwon, partly because it is "fluff" free.  Therefore, I've spent a bit of time reading reviews and watching YouTube videos about this ruleset.  It's based on Bolt Action so I don't have to learn any new concepts and looking at the army lists (free from Rick Priestley's website) there's enough options to transpose the Celtos troops across without too much effort.

Incoming!

  • And leading on from the above waffling I bought the Warlords of Erehwon rules.  For a tenner you can't go wrong.  Although I love a physical book, PDFs are appealing more and more to me -  they're cheaper, but storage is the main issue.  My book cases look near to collapse.  I've loaded it on 3 devices and the Cloud, so I can look at it anywhere which is handy.  Apparently the print copy was full of typos, whereas the PDF is a corrected version and includes the amendments Rick Priestley made last year.
