2022 plan pt2 - May to August

Here's the latest thinking for the second third of 2022:

Existing projects

  • Continue with Sikh Wars project (20mm)
    • Complete the EIC Sepoy regiment currently in progress
    • Chip away at the lead pile adding more units
  • 16th Century Western European Wars (15mm)
    • Make scenery to go with English church model
    • Purchase/make specific terrain
    • Purchase more figures to extend my collection back to the 1540s and also for the Irish Wars
  • Algerian War (20mm)
    • Finish making terrain
    • Paint up last few ALN figures
    • Repaint helicopter models
  • WW2 Italy 43-45 (15mm) 
    • Work on MDF buildings
    • Make specific terrain/scenic pieces
    • Rework all figure bases
  • Zona Alfa/Last Days Zombie apocalypse (20mm)
    • Work on MDF buildings
    • Make specific terrain/scenic pieces
    • Purchase more zombie figures
  • Burrows & Badgers (28mm)
    • Work out warbands for existing collection 
    • Make specific terrain/scenic pieces 
    • Purchase more figures
  • Decide what to do with unused 28mm figures
  • Continue blogging

New projects

  • Continuing looking for a new small scale/big scope project. 

Gaming

  • Play a minimum of 3 games.  In mind as I write this are:
    • 16th Century
    • WW2 Italy
    • Algerian War
    • Burrows & Badgers 
    • Seven Years War
    • Fantasy using my Celtos figures
The new plan is really just a continuation of  all I didn't get finished in the first quarter and working on those collections I've had years and never used.  I have plenty of painted figures but not enough terrain for a decent looking game.  Hence why most of the objectives are terrain related.

      The planning is the easy bit! If I didn't I'd just flit from one thing to another from week to week. Terrain is the thing for the next few months though.

A Punic Punch-up - Midgard AAR

Introduction Somewhere in Iberia a Carthaginian force scouting to find the main Roman army, come into contact with a Roman force.  Hanno Barberella the Carthaginian general decides to attack.  The force rosters can be found here .  Starting positions, Carthaginians at the top. Turn One The Numidian Skirmishers are all moved one Spear Throw (ST) and all pass their Command tests to take a second move.   The first Veteran infantry unit moves once, but fails it's Command test so Nailem the Crucifier, a level 2 Hero) spends a mighty deed to move them again.  The second Veteran unit passes it's Command test and moves a second time straightaway.  Nailem moves up with them.   One unit of Libyan infantry moves twice, but the second unit is impeded by rough terrain and failing it's Command test gets caught up.  One unit of Scutarii makes it's second move ok but the second fails so Iniesta Pardinus the level 1 Hero, spends a Mighty Deed to get them...

Victrix Dark Age Archers and Slingers

The last figures I completed in 2024 were a quartet of Victrix Dark Age Archers.  These were my oldest outstanding 28mm miniatures purchased in late 2022.   After completing these I thought it would be interesting to look at all the different figures I made using the Dark Age Archers bodies as the basis.  You get 36 bodies (one piece legs and torso) in each set.  Four are meant as archers, two as slingers.  There are numerous heads, arms and bits.  I sold one spruce which left me with 30 to do.  In reality I only did 28 as I used the legs from two of the archers with some Oathmark Elves. As with all plastic kits some bits work better together than others and Victrix do give instructions as to what bits fit certain bodies.  If you were doing these all as archers for the same army, you’d inevitably end up with some quite similar figures which in my eyes defeats the purpose of using plastics but that's just me.     When you’ve worked o...

15mm Tudor house make over

Last October I bought a 15mm Tudor House from Warbases to see whether it would work alongside my  Hovels Tudor buildings I've had for a dozen or so years ago.  The Warbases house ( link here ) is as you'd expect a simple MDF kit.  It's nice enough but by it's very nature is flat and therefore a bit dull, especially compared to the Hovels building which is full of character.  It's also got a larger footprint than the Hovels one which is fine for skirmish games maybe not so much for battles.  I decided to give it a makeover. Before I did anything I painted the inside of the building with matt emulsion paint coloured matched to Vallejo Model Colour Leather Brown.  Then I started work.  First off I added wooden beams.  Using the lines marked on the kit as a guide, I cut strips of coffee stirrers roughly 1mm wide by 1mm deep and stuck them on with PVA.  I trimmed them to absolute length when they were stuck down.   When all the beams wer...
