Space Weirdos AAR

Background

On the desert planet of Ilmoral the fanatical warriors of Bigkhardon face off against the soldiers of Corne.  Who will triumph in this Space Weirdos battle?

The forces

The Bigkhardons led by The Bitcher.

The Corne led by Norgal the Naughtiest.

The full stats for both forces can be found here.

Set up

I played the Kill 'em all scenario from the rules on a 2ft x 2ft board, standard size for a 75 points game of Space Weirdos.  The board was filled with rocky outcrops and cover.

Initial set up with the Bigkhardons at the top

Round One

The Bigkhardons win the Initiative roll and The Bitcher himself takes the lead.  He uses 2 actions to Move and then Shoots his heavy pistol at Dim Viesel but misses.  Dim Viesel uses one action to Aim and then Shoots at The Bitcher, but neither of Dim’s shots hit.

The Bighardons spend a Command Point and Hustle Vilya Puilmiof forward so she Moves 3 sticks.
Elton Assley Moves forward 1 stick for the Corne.  He can just about see The Bitcher so using Aim for another action he then Shoots at the Bigkhardon leader.  He only rolls a 7 on 2d12 but the Bitcher’s Defense roll is a pitiful 2 also on 2d12. That’s more than 3 times greater so the roll on the Under Fire table is +2 added to the +1 for Elton’s sniper rifle, The Bitcher rolls 7+3=10.  He’s Out of action in the first round!  If he was still able he’d be bitching about that…

The Bitcher gets it!

Likya Nuxsac uses 2 actions to Move to the sound of the guns.  He spots Elton and opens fire on him with his auto rifle using a Command Point to Power Up and boost the roll to balance out having moved twice.  Elton’s Defense dice are better so there’s no effect.

Norgal the Naughtiest spends a Command Point to Hustle adding a Move and for his next 2 actions he uses his Psychic Power of Mind Stab on Vilya Puilmiof leaving her Down and staggered

Mind Stab!

The last Bigkhardon to move is Drty Bachol who Moves 2 sticks and as there’s no suitable third action that ends his activation.

The Corne spend a Command Point to Hustle and Move The Gimp 3 sticks to support Norgal.

It’s now the Maintenance Phase.  As The Bigkhardons have lost their leader they need to make an unopposed Willpower roll.  They are Fanatics so benefit from a positive dice shift and their roll is successful.  Command is now with Likya Nuxsac.  All tokens are collected and that's the end of an eventful first round.

End of Round One positions

Round Two

Even though The Corne have a +1DT to Initiative for being Soldiers they lose the Initiative roll.

Being Down and staggered Vilya Puilmiof only has the Recover action open to her.  She passes the roll and then takes a Stand action.  For her final action she Shoots at The Gimp (she can’t target Norgal as he’s within a stick distance which is too close to use her sniper rifle).  Unsurprisingly as she’s just recovered she misses (The Gimp’s Defence roll being better).

Elton Assley uses two actions to Aim at Likya Nuxsac and then Shoots his sniper rifle, rolling  a maximum 24 against 6 for Likya. The Under Fire table roll is 4, +3 modifiers and Likya is Down.  For his activation Likya takes a Stand action and then steadying himself he Aims and then Fires at Elton using a Command Point to Power Up the roll.  It’s 13 v 7 and Elton is Down.  That’s quite a tasty duel developing.

Norgal the Naughtiest Moves for 1 action to Fight Vilya with his Horrible Claws. He uses a Command Point to Power Up the first attack to 2d12.  Vilya also spends a Command Point to Power Up her Defense to 2d10.  It’s 16v13 in Norgal’s favour and Vilya is knocked Down.  For Norgal’s second attack Vilya rolls defense at -1D and the score is 14 vs 6, more than double so there’s +2 modifier and +1 modifier for Horrible Claws.  The roll is 8 +3 and Vilya is now Out of action.

Norgal vs Vilya

Drty Bachol charges into the fray attacking Norgal.  Norgal uses a Command Point to use First Strike.  He rolls 18, Drty B 14 and the roll on the Under Attack table shows he is Knockbacked and Down.

Drty takes on Norgal

Dim Viesel Moves and then Shoots twice at Likya Nuxsac with his Auto Rifle scoring 14 and 17 against Likya’s Defense rolls of 7 and 14.  The first roll on the Under Fire table is 8+2 and it’s a straight Out of Action.

The final character to activate is The Gimp.  He can’t control his base instincts and seeing Drty on the floor he uses 2 Move actions to charge in and attack him with his whip.  As he was over 2 sticks away he gets a +1DT to his 2D10 and he rolls 14 on 2d12.   Being already Down Drty defends at -1DT so he rolls 2D6 scoring at 11.  The result is a Break Away but he's not able to do this.

The Gimp doing what he does

All the characters have been activated so it’s now the Maintenance phase.  All the tokens are now removed and Command Points replenished.

Round Three

With Drty Bachol the sole surviving Bigkhardon Down, initiative lies with The Corne.  Norgal attacks the hapless warrior using all 3 actions to Fight which his Horrible Claws and Teeth allow him to do.  Drty defends two of the attacks but the third breaches his defences.  Even worse the roll on the Under Attack table is 10 which is Out of Action.  That’s all the Bigkhardons accounted for.  Victory to The Corne.

A Drty ending

Conclusion

Another fun game of Space Weirdos.  One of the great benefits of SW is that games are quick, which suits me fine.  This one was even quicker than anticipated being over in 3 rounds.

It's good to give miniatures from my Warmachine and Hordes collection an outing.  Prime 1.5 was my heyday with these systems and although I played some V2 and have V3 I've not looked at V4.  The figures are terrific though.

I'm not really a Sci-Fi gamer and I have some figures I was going to sell on.  However, I enjoyed this so much that I will probably get those done for some more Space Weirdos action.  They'd  fit in with the Warmachine and Hordes miniatures so that'd increase my cast of characters.

The scenery was originally made for my Algerian War project but it worked well for a desolate  planet.  It  wouldn't be that hard to add some futuristic scatter either that won't take up too much space to store.  So I'm doing a complete u-turn on what I said in my Ovelist update. Hahahaha.
