Down on the Farm - Donnybrook Old West scenario

The scenario

The South, 1850s.  There’s been strange things going on in Ellis County.  Michael Harvey, tearaway son of the local Governor John P Harvey has disappeared.  The locals suspect the Lewis clan, local moonshining miscreants.

The enraged Governor is forced to act.  He hires Captain Tracey Pew and his band of hardened veterans from the Mexican and Seminole Wars to search the Lewis farmstead and get to the bottom of the mystery.

The truth is more complex.  Michael Harvey is in fact a willing guest of the Lewis clan, being the best friend of Lewis's son Conway.  He would be more than happy to live with the Lewis clan and learn the family business.  The 'shine has fierce hold on him.

The forces (2 pts per side)

The Lewis Clan – (based on the Outlaws and Highlanders factions from the Donnybrook rulebook) 23 figures

  • William Lewis (Hero D12) with pistol and hand weapons
  • Big Herk (character Chief’s champion D12) with hand weapons
  • 1 unit of 8 trusted henchmen with muskets and hand weapons (Drilled D8)
  • 1 unit of 12 rabble with improvised weapons (Recruit D6) with attached character JD Lewis (character Musician Recruit D6) armed with a mean banjo and all the clawpicking licks you would want or wouldn't depending on your thoughts on the banjo!

There are two additional figures for the two boys Conway Lewis and Michael Harvey.  These are not on the table at start of play but counters are placed by the Lewis clan player in one of the buildings.

Captain Pew’s Sailors – (based on the Military and Highlanders) 14 figures

  • Captain Tracey Pew (Hero D12) with pistol and sword
  • Sergeant Matthew Bonney (character Elite D10) with musket and cutlass
  • Charles Aldridge (character Master of Hounds & 3 hounds Elite D10) with musket and cutlass
  • 2 units of 4 sailors (Elite D10) muskets and cutlasses

Victory conditions

The Lewis clan want to retain the Harvey boy.  If they can stop Captain Pew from finding and taking the boy then victory will be theirs.

Captain Pew will have failed if he doesn't locate the boy and take him back.  He and his men have been given a free hand by the Governor to do whatever is required.

The scenario has a limit of 12 turns.

Special Rules

Charles Aldridge, the Master of Hounds has given clothing of the missing boy to his hounds.  If they  are within 6 inches of the boy they will scent him and move at maximum rate directly to him.  They can use their activation to make an ability test of 5+ on a D10 to see if they can scent Michael Harvey's location and will then automatically move at maximum rate towards him.  Once the hounds have scented the boys the counters are replace by figures.
